Done well, delegation allows not-for-profit leaders to focus on their most important tasks and helps to build bench strength. This starts by committing to your organization’s most valuable projects and those that can best benefit from your talents. Delegate routine tasks or those that require skills you don’t have. But be careful about choosing the right person for the job, and when handing it off, be clear about goals, expectations, deadlines and details. You’ll want to follow up, but don’t micromanage. Finally, make sure you acknowledge good work.
